Are you getting a big print or poster?

Are you getting a big print or poster from your photographer for your quinceanera?  Remember that bigger is not better when it comes to photo posters.  The bigger the picture enlargement the blurrier the picture will look.  This all depends on the equipment too.  Also another cool thing to consider is that the best size to get, again bigger is not better.  For example, many photographers offer the 20×30 enlargement, this is a huge picture, but sometimes it is very difficult to find the frame for.  You have to custom make it and that’s expensive.  The 18×24 or 16×20 are the best choice, 16×20 are the easiest frames to find.  You can go to your local Arts and Crats store, and since the size is very common then the price is cheaper too.

If you want the best value around, then ask your photographer for only 11×14 pictures.  This is a good size and frames are available from wal-mart or any dollar stores.

Videography for Quince Años

When it comes to videography, you basically get what you pay for.  A good quinceanera video always takes hard work.  At least 12 hours of work the day of the celebration.  Add another 2 or 3 days for editing and duplication.  Add another day if you’re retouching pictures or doing something special, and there goes your week.  The actual production time is a week but customers usually receive their final edited video from 4 to 8 weeks after the quince celebration.  This is very normal for any small video production company.

Please always provide your childhood pictures before the celebration. In our experience, if you leave this litte detail for later, you’ll probably will forget and delay your video a few weeks more.  Good videography takes years to master, and paying for a good videographer is always worth the few extra  dollars.  But video production is not just good videography, a good production company needs to master the art of editing, and last but not least, the art of duplication.  Duplication is a very huge deal, if you can’t produce a good master then all your hard work before that is lost. Videography and editing is no good if your customers can’t watch the video because it freezes up or won’t play.

Quinceanera

The above quinceanera pictures are the final result after a little image editing.  The original quinceanera photo was not bad but it was one of my favorite poses to do this cool effect. The tool that you have to use is of course the eraser in any image editing program. The trick is to erase around the picture manually and very carefully, some times this process takes from 20-30 minutes per picture.   Choose a background picture that was taken from about the same height, otherwise the final pictures will look fake.  Play around with the quinceanera picture size, too big will look fake, too small will look fake too.  Also try to add the shadow effect to the quinceanera pictures, It will blend more.  If you look at the picture below, this is the orginal.  This picture was a little more blueish. So I had to increase the reds for the new background.

Quinceanera Pictures & Braces

Posted by admin | Posted in Photography | Posted on 15-03-2009

It is definitely a pain to worry about your braces when geting your quinceanera pictures taken. You have a couple of different options to deal with this.

First and easier, you’ve got ages before the photos are actually snapped, which is plenty of time to practice smiling in a way that makes you look great, but doesn’t showcase your mouth metal. Try smiling lightly - with your mouth just a bit open, but not enough to really show your braces much. And as Tyra Banks tells the aspiring models on ANTM, try to “put warmth into your eyes” - it will make you look cheery and upbeat, even if you’re not smiling widely. Sit in front of the mirror and practice this smile technique until you can do it really easily. Voila, you’re all set to go for quinceanera picture day.

Another option is to talk to your quinceanera photographer about the possibility of touching up your photos to remove the braces. Many photographers will do this, for a charge.

A third, quite expensive option is to switch from regular braces to “invisible” braces, if your orthodontist (and parents) say that’s an option.

But I think smiling as I described above, in a not-too-big-but-still-happy-seeming manner, is probably the way to go. Hey, Miley Cyrus had braces, and she still went in front of the camera every day. You can do it for your big quinceanera picture day too. Just practice your semi-smile lots between now and then.  Feliz Quinceanera.

Better Quinceanera Pictures

For better quinceanera pictures, try  the following  tips :

Smile like a model! (Or in Tyra-speak, “Smile with your eyes”). When you smile for the camera, or even when you’re not smiling, try to smile with your eyes. Tap into your source of joy from within (by recalling a happy moment, picturing your beloved family pet, or thinking of the most upbeat song you know) and let your eyes sparkle with brightness from this internal emotion. The rest of your face will follow. (Bonus smile tip from the world of modeling: To make your smile look symmetrical, put the tip of your tongue behind your front teeth when you smile).

Soften your stare. Try not to stare too deeply into the camera. You want your focus to be soft, not intense. Pretend you’re looking with love at someone who you care about… like your boyfriend, or an adorable puppy. (Aww!)

During a long photo session, remember to shake yourself out to loosen up every once and a while. If you’re nervous, your facial muscles will tighten and your smile will look forced and fake. Close your eyes between portraits and take a deep breath before opening them again to help you relax.

The more poise you have, the more likely you are to look natural and show your best smile. The most attractive pictures are a result of someone who is comfortable around the camera and knows exactly what they want. This can be learned. Practice your best smile in front of your mirror, so you can do it on command for the camera.

If your body is your concern, steal this look-slimmer trick from Queen Latifah: Stand with one leg slightly in front of the other, by bending your knee and placing that foot a few inches in front of the other one). Angle your hips slightly towards that side. Put hands on hips, or keep them at sides, hands resting lightly on outer thighs. (If you are sitting, angle toward one side and rest hands on thighs).

Leaning slightly toward the camera adds interest, dimension, and a natural look to a photo. Think of having a long neck like a gazelle, and tilt your chin down just a bit to avoid the appearance of a double chin and also to prevent the camera from getting a view right up your nostrils.

Some photographers say they get the best pictures when they tell their subject to look slightly above the lens, rather than directly at it. So give that a try.

Practica, practica, practica..

Being a great photo subject is all about practice. Get a friend to take a bunch of digital photos of you, while you try out the tips above. Go over the shots and make notes about what you don’t like about them. Do look too serious or goofy? Do you tend to squint one eye? Then with that specific knowledge in mind, go back and take more photos, trying to correct for the stuff that bugged you. Given time, you will hopefully conquer your issues, and become a fabulously photogenic person and hopefully better quinceanera pictures.

Photos for Your Quinceanera Invitations

Posted by admin | Posted in Invitations | Posted on 25-02-2009

So, you’ve chosen a quinceanera invitation that has a  photo.  Sometimes quinceanera invitations vendors say that you have to provide the pictures.  That’s ok, here at SuperQuince, we’ll tell you how to print your own photos, this post will teach you how to take a pretty good picture for your quinceanera invitation and we’ll also show you how to print it on your home computer or local photo lab.

Taking a Good Picture for your quinceanera invitations

The first step of taking  a good picture is to borrow the best camera you can get.  Digital cameras are the best thing to get. Why?  You can shoot 50 pictures  and choose the best one.  Under your camera settings, increase the picture resolution to its max, this will allow you to crop your picture and still get a perfect print for your quinceanera invitation.

I’m assuming you have a consumer camera not a professional camera, so dial your camera settings to A or Automatic, this setting is usually green. Also turn your flash on.  Ok, that’s that for camera settings. Now you have to decide on what kind of picture you want.  Full body or portrait?  Portraits are only the head and part of the shoulders, these are the easiest to do, since you can shoot them anywhere.

Let’s say you want to shoot a portrait.  The next step is to look for a background with no distracting objects: people, sofas, cars, etc.  If possible take the picture on a park or backyard. Preferably take the picture outside for better lighting. If you wanna be a pro then try to shoot the picture early in the morning or late in the afternoon, the worse times are from 12 noon till 3 p.m.  Another great tip is that when you’re shooting the picture, then sun should NOT be hitting the quinceanera’s eyes.  The sun should hit her back.  Make sure the flash in on all the time and that you’re not too far from the quinceanera.  A good guide is that you should zoom the camera all the way out, and only half of the quinceanera should fit the camera viewfinder.  You should be very close to the quinceanra, no more than five feet.  Try to center all your shots, since the area of focus on most consumer cameras is at the center. If the sun is not too strong you can try to take some pictures with no flash, for a more natural feel. If the sun is TOO STRONG try to take pictures on some shade. This last step is the most important of all, you know what it is?  you should SMILE… Angry quinceaneras are OUT…

Printing your photos for your quinceanera invitations

Once you’ve shot the perfect picture, transfer it to your pc and open your favorite picture program.  I’m gonna be using photoshop and I’m gonna be posting the psd file so you can download it if you want, you can use this file as a guide.  The usual picture size for quinceanera invitations are 2.5 inches x 3.5 inches, but don’t forget to double check.

We’re gonna print two pictures of the above size to a 4×6 regular print.   So, create a new document and set your size to width 6 inches and height 4 inches at 300 dpi RGB.  300 is the resolution and RGB is the color mode.

Save your new file as 4×6 and create another file with the following dimensions: 3.5 x 2.5 or the actual size of your quinceanera invitations photos.  The trick to do here is to drag and drop the small picture to the 4×6 picture.

I’m gonna have to stop here for “Photos for your quinceanera Invitations”, but tomorrow I will be uploading the original PSD file for you to download, please bookmark us! and come back soon.  I would love to hear what kind of software you guys have at home and maybe I can upload a file specific to your program.
